2014 IRS Mileage Rates

The 2014 IRS Mileage Rates, which begin on January 1, 2014, are as follows:

2014 Business Mileage Rates

Used car sales
For business miles driven, the 2014 IRS mileage rate is fifty six cents per mile ($.56/mile).  This is for any type of vehicle.

For medical miles driven, the 2014 IRS mileage rate is twenty three and a half cents per mile ($.23/ mile).

For moving miles driven, the 2014 IRS mileage rate is twenty three and a half cents per mile ($.23/ mile).

For charity miles driven, the 2014 IRS mileage rate is fourteen cents per mile ($.14/mile).

Believe it or not, the 2014 IRS mileage rates are mostly lower than in 2013.  Usually IRS rates go up a bit each year in order to keep up with inflation.  Not so with mileage rates.  All but the charity mileage rate represent a decrease from 2013.

The rules for using mileage rates on your tax return remain the same:  if you use the mileage rate, you cannot also take depreciation on that same vehicle.  You are also limited to four vehicles for which you can claim business miles.
